Protect Your New Tattoo

1. Remove the Bandage:

  • Take off the bandage 2-3 hours after the procedure (it can be left on for up to 24 hours if you used adhesive bandages like Saniderm).

  • Before touching or cleaning the tattooed area, thoroughly wash your hands with soap and warm water.

2. Carefully Remove the Bandage:

  • Gently peel it off without pulling upwards.

  • If it sticks, wet the bandage and gently pull it off to avoid damaging any scabs or dry areas.

3. Clean the Area:

  • After removing the bandage, cleanse the area with mild soap and water.

  • Gently rub with your fingertips to remove plasma, but do not scrub the tattoo.

  • Pat dry with a clean, dry paper towel.

4. Let It Air Dry:

  • Allow the tattoo to air dry completely for at least 10 minutes.

5. Apply Aftercare Product:

  • Apply a thin layer of a tattoo aftercare product. Avoid using too much, as this can cause breakouts.

  • Continue to cleanse the tattoo for 3-5 days and apply the product 3-4 times a day.

6. Take Care of the Tattoo:

  • Do not let the tattoo become dry. If a scab forms, do not pick it, let it heal on its own.

  • Your tattoo will start to peel around 3-5 days later. At this point, switch to a fragrance-free lotion or gentle moisturizer like Lubriderm as needed until fully healed.

7. Expect Itching:

  • Itching is normal. Never pick, scratch, or peel it, as this may result in loss of ink.

General Information

  • Tattoos take 3-4 weeks to fully heal.

  • Once healed, moisturize regularly to keep the skin soft and the ink looking fresh.

  • Avoid swimming, submerging the tattoo in water, or sun exposure for at least 2 weeks.

  • Sun exposure can damage a tattoo, so always use high SPF sunscreen when outdoors.

Do Not Use

  • Do not use petroleum jelly or petroleum-based ointments.

  • Avoid soaps with fragrance, scrubs, or medicated ointments like Neosporin.

  • Stay away from iodine, peroxide, or alcohol-based solutions.
