Protect Your New Tattoo
1. Remove the Bandage:
Take off the bandage 2-3 hours after the procedure (it can be left on for up to 24 hours if you used adhesive bandages like Saniderm).
Before touching or cleaning the tattooed area, thoroughly wash your hands with soap and warm water.
2. Carefully Remove the Bandage:
Gently peel it off without pulling upwards.
If it sticks, wet the bandage and gently pull it off to avoid damaging any scabs or dry areas.
3. Clean the Area:
After removing the bandage, cleanse the area with mild soap and water.
Gently rub with your fingertips to remove plasma, but do not scrub the tattoo.
Pat dry with a clean, dry paper towel.
4. Let It Air Dry:
Allow the tattoo to air dry completely for at least 10 minutes.
5. Apply Aftercare Product:
Apply a thin layer of a tattoo aftercare product. Avoid using too much, as this can cause breakouts.
Continue to cleanse the tattoo for 3-5 days and apply the product 3-4 times a day.
6. Take Care of the Tattoo:
Do not let the tattoo become dry. If a scab forms, do not pick it, let it heal on its own.
Your tattoo will start to peel around 3-5 days later. At this point, switch to a fragrance-free lotion or gentle moisturizer like Lubriderm as needed until fully healed.
7. Expect Itching:
Itching is normal. Never pick, scratch, or peel it, as this may result in loss of ink.
General Information
Tattoos take 3-4 weeks to fully heal.
Once healed, moisturize regularly to keep the skin soft and the ink looking fresh.
Avoid swimming, submerging the tattoo in water, or sun exposure for at least 2 weeks.
Sun exposure can damage a tattoo, so always use high SPF sunscreen when outdoors.
Do Not Use
Do not use petroleum jelly or petroleum-based ointments.
Avoid soaps with fragrance, scrubs, or medicated ointments like Neosporin.
Stay away from iodine, peroxide, or alcohol-based solutions.
